The Horned Frogs have won three straight and four of the last five in the series. This is the first time since 2004 the teams have played a three-game weekend series, and the Horned Frogs have won the past two, including the 2003 series at Fort Worth ... TCU is ranked as high as No. 7 by Baseball America and went 2-1 this past weekend at the Houston College Classic, the same tournament in which Tech went 0-3 ... TCU's Saturday starting pitcher, Matt Purke, was a first-round selection of the Texas Rangers out of Spring High School but turned down the money to attend college ... Starting today, Tech will play six of its next 12 games against ranked opponents, and will open Big 12 Conference play next weekend against a Texas A&M team that has been on the cusp of the rankings all season ... Entering the week, Tech's defense had turned 14 double plays, which led the Big 12 Conference.

Sudan's Koontz, Tech-ex Sears make Houston semis

Kory Koontz, a 14-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier from Sudan, has advanced to the March 17-18 semifinals at RodeoHouston, the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association's largest winter show. His partner is Joel Bach, who won the team roping heading title at the 2009 ABC Rodeo in Lubbock. Bach and Koontz made the cut in Houston after each earned $5,000 in the qualifying performances.
